[Starry Sky Master Newsletter vol.3] Winter Constellations: Orion

This week too, the starry sky master will bring you starry sky knowledge that you'll want to talk about tomorrow.
This time, we will be talking about Orion, a winter constellation that even those who are not familiar with the starry sky have likely heard of at least once.

Orion, the landmark of the winter sky

To find the winter constellations, first find Orion, which acts as a guide to help you find the various constellations that light up the winter night sky.

The triangle formed by Betelgeuse in Orion, Sirius in Canis Major, and Procyon in Canis Minor is called the Winter Triangle.

- A brave hunter who was defeated by a scorpion

Orion is a constellation that represents the majestic figure of Orion the hunter. Orion was very large and strong, and boasted about being the best hunter in Greek mythology. The goddess Hera, unable to bear seeing Orion, released a huge scorpion at his feet to punish him. Even Orion could not withstand the scorpion's poison and lost his life. For this reason, even after becoming a constellation, Orion remains afraid of Scorpio and never appears while Scorpio is visible above the horizon. Thus, the winter constellation Orion and the summer constellation Scorpio never appear in the same night sky.

In the winter, when the beautiful Orion constellation shines brilliantly, why not gaze at the night sky at Grand Chariot Big Dipper 135° while thinking about the mythology of the constellation? We look forward to seeing you there.
