●Cancer, the starry sky of spring

Cancer is a constellation known as the birth constellation, and is marked by a square of stars. This is the crab's shell. Its arms and legs extend from it, and it is a little difficult to find because it is full of faint stars.
Therefore, if you use binoculars, you can see that many stars are gathered in this square."Pleiades star cluster"This is a group of stars that is one of the highlights of the spring starry sky.

A giant crab scattered fleetingly in the night sky

CancerThe model for this crab is based on the giant crab that appears in the Greek myth of Hercules' battle with the monster Hydra. Hercules is tasked with twelve adventures, one of which is the slaying of the nine-headed Hydra.

The Hydra lived in a spring in the Lernean valley, and was causing trouble for the people by releasing poison into the spring water. Hercules fought hard to get rid of the Hydra.

Hercules cut off the nine heads of the Hydra with his sword, but no matter how many he cuts off, new heads just keep growing and the Hydra shows no signs of dying. Just as Hercules is getting fed up with this, the great crab, which is the constellation Cancer, appears.

However, instead of helping Hercules, the giant crab caught Hercules' foot in its large claws in an attempt to hinder his slaying of the Hydra. Hercules became angry and raised his foot to crush him.

This squashed giant crab now forms the constellation Cancer.
